senator feinstein has tremendous courage, as well as being one of the sharpest intellects in the united states senate. the vast majority of her colleagues know that. cruz is a newbie. perhaps he doesn't realize the kind, the level of respect that has been earned from senator feinstein's colleagues. but to do that, what it did was really to marginalize senator cruz. now, clearly he's trying to stake out a political position to the right of the republican party and it keeps getting more and more difficult as every republican seems to kowtow to the nra with very few exceptions. but, you know, at some point, he keeps trying to get to the further and further to the right, he's just going to fall off the cliff in terms of rationality. >> just a final question, sir. this week the president has made extensive attempts to reach out to republicans, to try and reach some kind of agreement on a grand bargain of some kind. have you been disappointed by what you've seen at places like cpac which seems to suggest that there's just no willingness whatsoever to compromise at all? >> no, they really are
